The Brussels, Belgium-based ensemble Sónico, a pioneer in the historical reconstruction of tango music, vividly brings to life stunning arrangements of tango's Guardia Nueva (1920-1935), an exciting period of stylistic innovation in tango music. The performances on this record mark the first time in nearly a century that these rare arrangements have been recorded, meticulously transcribed from original 78 rpm discs by such tango luminaries as Elvino Vardara, Julio De Caro, and Osvaldo Fresedo.
Recorded in 2024 in brilliant hi-fi stereo sound by renowned engineer Geert De Deken at Woodlake Music Studio in Belgium, this hefty 180-gram red vinyl pressing captures the sensuous and captivating sounds of tango in stunning warmth and clarity. For this record, Sónico is: Stephen Meyer, Daniel Hurtado Jiménez (violin); Lysandre Donoso, Carmela Delgado (bandoneon); Ivo De Greef (piano); Ariel Eberstein (double bass). The performances were recorded especially for this release and are not available anywhere else.
Limited edition of 500 copies pressed in cherry-red translucent vinyl.
Note: This is a stereo, microgroove, 12-inch 180-gram vinyl record meant to be played at 78 RPM. It is compatible with all modern turntables (post-1950s) fitted with a stereo cartridge and capable of spinning at 78 RPM. For best results, we strongly recommend a cartridge capable of tracking at 3-4 grams. Rugged cartridges designed for DJ use (like the Stanton 500, Shure M44-7, or Ortofon VNL) work better than delicate, high-end "audiophile" cartridges. Use an ordinary LP stylus; no special stylus is required. This record should NOT be played on vintage "wind-up" machines with steel needles. For your convenience, a complimentary MP3 download of this record will be provided upon checkout.
