The Gibson Murphy Lab 1960 Hummingbird is a true testament to Gibson’s heritage in the realm of acoustic guitars. As an example of their finest available craftsmanship in the modern era, the 1960 Hummingbird is masterfully aged by Murphy Lab artisans, delivering a guitar that is just the right amount of broken in and worn through the years right out of the case as new.

When Gibson announced their reacquisition of master builder Tom Murphy as a full-time member of the company, players and collectors in the guitar community knew they would be in for a thrilling launch of excellent instruments. Since then Gibson has been issuing some of the absolute finest examples of a vintage instrument recreated as new. After a patient wait, the Murphy Lab has finally unveiled a lineup of extraordinary acoustic guitars harkening the Golden Era of Gibson.

The Murphy Lab 1960 Hummingbird is based on the Gibson Hummingbird as debuted in 1960. This iconic square-shoulder dreadnought begins with a Thermally Aged Sitka Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. Multi-ply binding adorns both the top and back of the 1960 Hummingbird. It is fitted with a Mahogany neck with rounded profile, Rosewood fingerboard, and classic split-parallelogram Mother of Pearl Inlays.

The 1960 Hummingbird receives the Murphy Lab Light Aged finish treatment. This process simulates decades of light usage and care, with lightly aged hardware to enhance its appeal. The Murphy Lab team reverse engineered the original nitrocellulose lacquer formula used by Gibson in the 1950s and 1960s, You will find light checking and softened edges throughout the the 1960 Hummingbird, excellently simulating a broken in, well loved instrument.

Completing the 1960 Hummingbird are features including a traditional belly-up style Rosewood bridge, hand scalloped X-Bracing, lightly aged Gotoh tuners with Keystone buttons, bone nut and saddle, and a period correct hardshell case. The Murphy Lab delivers with this 1960 Hummingbird, capturing the sonic DNA of an original Hummingbird and delivering it in a brand new instrument.

Great quality, very versatile

I'm very pleased with this item. It was not complicated to assemble but some items required dexterity and strength. The fabric panels are nice and tight and that's partly why it's a little hard to get that final screw in. I'm very pleased with the legs and the wheels. The metal components are nicely finished and feel substantial and endurable. I can easily fold this so many different ways… I can minimize the number of panels that are seen if desired and it can be straight or accordion. It's very stable which was hugely important to me because I'm fostering many many cats. It's not cheap looking and the light color fabric allows enough light to pass through that it doesn't darken the room substantially. I think the price was very reasonable

Very easy to assemble. Good quality. The material is thick enough to block the light and gives much needed privacy.
