Worked entirely by hand across its full surface, rows of kantha running stitch bind two layers together in the ancient tradition of the craft - each line placed by a single artisan, each pass of thread unrepeatable. The front is a single length of upcycled underprint cotton - its ground a soft dusty blue-grey and pale silver-white, across which large irregular zones of warm coral-pink, golden-ochre, olive-green and dusty teal bleed and drift like a watercolour wash left to dry on aged cloth. Beneath these washes, dense layers of fine-line woodblock ghost prints emerge - geometric grid lines, scrolling botanical motifs, small daisy-like flower heads in dark navy and rust-red - the accumulated memory of countless printings laid down before it on the tables of Jaipur. The overall effect is of a faded fresco, an aged map, a painting made slowly over weeks. It is deeply layered, atmospheric, and entirely one of a kind.

The reverse is Iris Blue - a deep, inky blue - in a 45% cotton / 55% linen blend, its smooth face a quiet counterpoint to the layered complexity of the front. The kantha stitch reads clearly, a mark of the hand that made it.

Format: Hardcover
Love love love this book. Bought it for my toddler and another for her friend as well. A good reminder to us parents that childhood memories are often made with messes.

Best Children's Book of 2024
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
My bibliophile kids (11 and 8) and I adore this book. The illustrations are delightfully inviting, the children are magically independent and loving, and the story encapsulates the gentle chaos of childhood in such a beautiful way. Highly recommend.

Great book!
Format: Hardcover
I hate when my kids make messes so this was the perfect book for me. It put things in perspective that messes aren't always a bad thing.
