Het voordeel van een GEL batterij is dat deze bestand is tegen diepe ontlading, zelfs als de batterij niet direct weer wordt herladen. De GEL accu heeft daarnaast minder last van zelfontlading dan andere accu's. Dit type accu is daarom prima geschikt voor dagelijks gebruik, ook als deze elke dag weer wordt ontladen en herladen. Tot slot is de GEL accu beter bestand tegen hogere temperaturen, trillingen en schokken.
