Met dit insectenhotel krijgen tegelijkertijd verschillende soorten insecten de kans om zich te nestelen en te overwinteren. De natuurlijke woonplaats van vele insectensoorten wordt door veranderingen in hun omgeving bedreigd en dit is de manier om ze te helpen en beschermen. Het middelste compartiment biedt bescherming en huisvesting aan groene gaasvliegen, lieveheersbeestjes en oorwormen. De rode kleur van de deur zal in het bijzonder de groene gaasvliegen aantrekken. Bijen verschuilen zich vaak in holle stokjes. Elke bij heeft een ander formaat gat (of buis) nodig. De metselbij kiest een diameter tussen de 3 en 7 mm, terwijl de maskerbij 2 tot 4 mm prefereert. Wilde bijen bedekken hun buizen met leem. De gaten in het hout kunnen voor vele insecten als nest dienen.
