Elke 100 jaar komen heksen en tovenaars bij elkaar om te strijden om de titel van Meester van de Heksensteen. Degene die de Heksensteen in handen heeft, wordt beloond met prestige en eer, om nog maar te zwijgen over de enorme krachten van de steen. Maar wie zal deze keer de beste magiër zijn?

In Witchstone moet je punten verzamelen door acties uit te voeren. Deze acties komen in verschillende soorten. Zo heb je acties om locaties op het speelveld met energielijnen te verbinden, acties om je persoonlijke heksenleger bij diezelfde locaties in te zetten en acties om kristallen te verzamelen voor bonussen. Al deze verschillende acties worden op dezelfde manier in gang gezet. Dit doe je namelijk door een tegel met actiesymbolen op een keteltableau te leggen. Als je huidige tegel met zijn actiesymbolen aansluit op eerder gelegde tegels met dezelfde symbolen, gaat de betreffende actie meerdere keren af. Door slim te spelen kun je zo enorme kettingreacties aan magie veroorzaken!
