All aboard for laughs with the beloved ’80s sitcom Silver Spoons! At the heart of the series is a delightfully flipped father-son dynamic: Edward Stratton III loves Pac-Man, pinball machines, and electric trains, while his son Ricky is mature, sensible, and fluent in computers. The twist? Edward (Joel Higgins) is in his 30s, and Ricky (Ricky Schroder) is just 12.

In the pilot episode, Ricky arrives at the lavish Stratton mansion to meet the father he’s never known—and announces that he’s moving in. Edward, the very definition of an overgrown child, has spent his life avoiding responsibility, even while running his toy company, Eddie’s Toys. Ricky quickly realizes his father needs to grow up; Edward, meanwhile, believes his son is far too serious and needs to enjoy being a kid while he still can.

Ricky’s mother, Evelyn Bluthorn (Christine Belford), had a whirlwind, week-long marriage to Edward years earlier. Now remarried, she has sent Ricky to a military boarding school. When Edward discovers that his brief marriage produced a son—“It doesn’t take that long,” Ricky dryly points out—he panics and initially sends Ricky back. Guilt soon wins out, and Edward dons a swamp-monster costume to spring Ricky from school and bring him home to a mansion filled with arcade games and a scale-model freight train running through the house.

Edward’s playful immaturity shines through in moments like dancing to the Pac-Man theme song, while his poised personal assistant Kate Summers (Erin Gray) serves as the voice of reason. Their long-simmering will-they-or-won’t-they relationship eventually leads to marriage in season three.

Adding another layer is Edward’s father, Edward Stratton II (John Houseman), a wealthy industrialist who believes money exists to make more money—directly clashing with Edward’s belief that money should be used to make people happy. Ricky often finds himself caught in the middle, wishing only for peace within the family.

Ricky’s world expands with a memorable group of friends: bad-boy Derek Taylor (Jason Bateman, seasons 1–2), smooth-talking cowboy J.T. Martin (Bobby Fite, seasons 1–2), and lovable nerd Freddy Lippincottleman (Corky Pigeon, seasons 1–4). They get into plenty of trouble—and learn plenty of lessons—along the way. Leslie Crambottom (Georgi Irene) harbors a major crush on Ricky.

Edward’s original attorney Leonard Rollins (Leonard Lightfoot) exits after season one, replaced by the buttoned-up business manager Dexter Stuffins (Franklyn Seales). In season three, Dexter’s hip, breakdancing nephew Alfonso Spears (Alfonso Ribeiro) joins the cast and becomes Ricky’s new best friend. As the kids reach high school, Brad (Billy Jacoby, seasons 4–5) rounds out the group. Meanwhile, newlyweds Kate and Edward welcome Kate’s eccentric Uncle Harry Summers (Ray Walston) into the mansion.

Warm, funny, and endlessly rewatchable, Silver Spoons blends family comedy, generational clashes, and toy-store wish fulfillment into one of the defining sitcoms of the 1980s.

Love this!
Color: Black, Size: 15.7 inch, Color: Black, Size: 15.7 inch
I looked at dozens of similar shelves before settling on this one. Finally have something to fill the awkward space above the toilet. It was a little tricky to install by myself but definitely manageable. The only thing that could have made this better is if a template was included to help with making sure screw holes are level and spaced properly but it was simple enough to make one. This set was a little more than others that I looked at but I think it looks great, is solid quality. Definitely work the extra few dollars.

Cute shelf set!
Color: Brown, Color: Brown
Shelves look great in my room. Perfect amount of space to display my little travel trinkets. Super easy to install and seem to hold a good amount of weight as I have a Mason Jar full of sand/shells on one of them.

I only needed 3 of the 4 shelves so I have one as a backup! Very easy to install as well. The shelves feel sturdy and I’ve never had any issues!

quality matches cost + instructions unnecessarily tedious
Color: Brown, Color: Brown
The material is real wood but don't assume that means quality - it's still very cheap feeling, and very lightweight. But once installed they are quite stable, and they look great from afar. I got a darker colored one and the stain does come off very easily. One of the shelves had a huge manufacturer sticker on it and it took off the stain when I removed it, and a bit of the stain also came off when I wiped the shelves down with a wet cloth. It'll be dry dusting from now on, I suppose. Also, they did not fit snugly into the corner - when one side is pushed flush to the wall, it forces the other side to pull away from the wall a little bit. It wasn't a drastic space, maybe like 1/8th of an inch, but it is still something to note. I am fine with the cheap quality as they are, after all, pretty cheap, so I'd say they are worth exactly as much as they cost. Personally I am happy with the purchase - just thought I'd warn. Secondly - if you want to follow the instructions exactly, you will need two people unless you have inhuman agility. But I also think the instructions were a bit asinine and tedious. They want you to line up the LOOSE shelf and brackets with a leveler to mark where the brackets go on the wall, then put in the wall screws, hang the brackets on them, balance the shelf on the brackets to mark on the SHELF where the brackets will be attached, take the brackets off the wall to screw them into the shelf, then put the combined shelf-bracket unit once again on the wall screws and finally screw those in tight. In hindsight, you can just mark where the brackets should go on the SHELF (not wall), screw the brackets into the shelves, THEN level the shelf on the wall and screw the whole unit into the wall together. We were really baffled why the instructions didn't have us do that instead of spending extra time (and frustration) trying to juggle all the loose pieces and tools. But I'm not engineer-minded, nor have I ever installed corner shelves before, so maybe there would be some kind of issue with doing it that way that I can't predict.
