Fitting and handling
Allow the boards to acclimatise in the room where they will be fitted for at least 48 hours before installation, keeping them stacked flat and evenly supported to prevent any bowing. Fix using appropriate wood screws or adhesive depending on the application, and pre-drill near ends to avoid splitting. If leaving the surface unfinished, apply a paint, primer, or clear sealer to help maintain stability and protect the timber over time.
FAQ
What is the difference between laminated finger jointed timber and solid timber?
Laminated finger jointed timber is made by mechanically joining shorter lengths of timber end to end and bonding them together. This process uses the full length of the board more efficiently and results in a more dimensionally stable product that is less prone to warping, twisting, or cupping compared to a single-piece solid board.
Is this board suitable for painting or staining?
Yes. The smooth planed finish on all four sides means this board takes paint, primer, and stain well. For best results, lightly sand with a fine-grit paper and wipe clean before applying your chosen finish. The finger joints will remain slightly visible under clear finishes, so for painted applications this is less of a consideration.
Can this redwood PSE board be used in a kitchen or bathroom?
This board is rated for internal dry use (UC1) and is not treated for damp or humid conditions. In kitchens and bathrooms it can be used where it will not be exposed to direct moisture, but thorough sealing or painting on all surfaces, including cut ends, is strongly recommended to protect against humidity over time.
