Care

Low maintenance, requires regular watering when young, and benefits from minimal pruning after flowering. Prefers living in full sun to partial shade and likes the soil to be moist, slightly acidic, organic, well-drained soil. Best grown in zones 4-9. 

Growth Habit

Growing 20-25 feet tall and 20-25 feet wide, it is ideal for small gardens, often blooming again in summer. White flushed with purple blooms.

Toxicity

While not poisonous, consuming large quantities of any plant material may cause mild gastrointestinal upset (vomiting or diarrhea). Deer resistant.

The writing and the approach in the book are not earth shattering. In fact, I wish there was a little more meat or pizzaz in the content. So, why the recommendation? An absolute must read - even if the writing style is a bit flat - the content is NOT.
