In the year 1980, astronauts Alan Virdon (Ron Harper) and Pete Burke (James Naughton) crash-land on a strange world, only to discover it's Earth in the far future—long after a cataclysmic event has left apes in control and humans enslaved.
With the help of a sympathetic chimpanzee named Galen (Roddy McDowall, reprising his iconic role), Alan and Pete flee from the grasp of the authoritarian ape government, seeking a way back to their own time while aiding oppressed humans along the way.
Throughout their journey, the trio confronts injustice, uncovers fragments of lost human civilization, and evades the relentless pursuit of General Urko (Mark Lenard) and Councillor Zaius (Booth Colman).
