The contact tip to work distance should be about 3/4" (no more than 1")
If you set everything correctly, the amperage reading in the display should be about 160-170 amps.
The above settings work for in-position welds and also for out-of-position vertical up and overhead welds. The above settings are used during AWS D1.1 state certification tests and, if executed properly in multiple passes, can make sound welds on materials of unlimited thickness.
