AMACO Potter's Choice | PC-04 Palladium
Palladium is a highly reflective metallic glaze with a mirror-like surface, particularly striking when used on sculptural work. A heavy application of three coats is needed to produce the glassy finish, and a smooth/fine clay body is preferred for the best results. This glaze is fluid and may run, especially if overfired, so testing is recommended. Not considered safe for dinnerware or surfaces coming into direct contact with food.
AMACO Potter's Choice glazes are a studio favourite for midfire pottery, offering rich colour, movement and surface variation at cone 5 - 6. Designed to create reduction-style effects in oxidation, this versatile range performs beautifully on both smooth and textured ware, with endless possibilities for layering and glaze combinations. Most colours will also remain stable at higher temperatures.
Key Features:
- Firing range: Cone 5 - 6.
- Suitable for brushing or spray application.
- Great for layering with other glazes.
- Stunning reduction effects in electric kilns.
- Variable results depending on application / layering techniques.
- Palladium is not food safe.
Application:
- Mix glaze thoroughly prior to each use.
- Gently wipe your bisque with a damp sponge to remove any dust or oils. This will help the glaze adhere smoothly.
- Apply three even coats with a soft bristled fan or hake brush, allowing each layer to dry before adding the next. Alternate the direction of brush strokes on each layer.
- Glaze may be diluted with water, gum solution or brushing medium if it is thicker than desired or has dried out over time.
- When layering, be mindful that some glaze combinations may become more fluid and run during firing.
Safety Information:
Tableware producers should test all finished ware to confirm food safety, as results may vary due to firing conditions or surface contamination.
Due to variations in raw materials used during manufacturing, we recommend firing glazed test tiles before using each new batch number of glaze.
