Six Questions Your Manhattan Bagel Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We developed this Manhattan Bagel Franchise financial model using detailed research to ensure your planning is based on real-world unit economics. The model comes pre-populated with key data, including $800,000 in year-one revenue and $165,000 in EBITDA, but remains fully editable to suit your specific location. It covers everything from the $25,000 franchise fee to monthly operating budget for small food franchise needs.

How soon will this unit turn a profit?

The unit is projected to reach its break-even date in April 2026, just four months after launching. This financial model for coffee and breakfast shop shows year-one EBITDA at $165,000, with profitability scaling as catering and sandwich sales ramp up. Steady growth in high-margin coffee sales is the key to accelerating this timeline.

Profitability Levers

  • Scale catering to 12% of mix
  • Optimize crew shifts for morning rush
  • Monitor food waste weekly
[dynamic_pic9]

What is the total capital requirement?

To learn how to calculate startup costs for a bagel franchise, you must look at the $650,000 total CAPEX (capital expenditure). This includes $300,000 for leasehold improvements and $150,000 for bakery equipment, plus a cash buffer to handle the $613,000 minimum cash point in March 2026. Startup funding requirements for bagel business models must account for these heavy upfront costs before revenue stabilizes.

Major Capital Uses

  • Leasehold Improvements: $300,000
  • Bakery Equipment: $150,000
  • Furniture and Fixtures: $60,000
[dynamic_pic10]

What are the expected investor returns?

Based on the return on investment metrics, a franchisee can expect an IRR of 1.39% and an ROE of 0.49. While the payback period extends beyond year five, the annual EBITDA grows significantly to $363,000 by the fifth year of operation. Evaluating franchise investment opportunities with excel allows you to see how long-term equity builds even when initial cash returns are modest.

Key Investor Metrics

  • Internal Rate of Return: 1.39%
  • Year 5 EBITDA: $363,000
  • Revenue Growth: 70% over 5 years
[dynamic_pic11]

What is the monthly break-even point?

The break-even analysis indicates you need to cover approximately $12,000 in monthly fixed costs, including the $8,000 prime location rent. Reaching this point in four months depends heavily on maintaining an efficient average ticket and high throughput during the 6 AM to 10 AM window. Labor and royalty burdens are the biggest variable pressures on this calculation.

Speed to Break-Even

  • Drive mobile order adoption
  • Upsell premium coffee blends
  • Control utility consumption
[dynamic_pic12]

How much cash runway is required?

The franchise unit cash flow projection spreadsheet shows the lowest cash point occurring in March 2026 at $613,000. You defintely need to ensure your initial funding covers the gap between the $25,000 franchise fee payment and the start of catering revenue in June. Managing the timing of equipment payments is the best way to protect your liquidity during the build-out phase.

Cash Flow Protection

  • Negotiate rent-free build-out period
  • Phase equipment delivery payments
  • Limit opening inventory levels
[dynamic_pic13]

How do different scenarios affect outcomes?

Forecasting revenue for local food service franchise units involves comparing $800,000 base-year sales against high-growth scenarios that could reach $1.36 million. A high-performance case improves the profit margin analysis for breakfast catering business lines, significantly shortening the payback period. Conversely, a low-revenue scenario makes the 10% combined royalty and marketing fee much harder to absorb.

High-Case Strategies

  • Aggressive B2B catering outreach
  • High-density local digital ads
  • Cross-training for peak productivity

Great many outlets but insufficient usb power for most needs
Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong, Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong
I absolutely LOVE how many ports/outlets this extension unit has. It has usb-As, usb-Cs, AC outlets, on/off switch... In that regard, it's perfect. But. If you're looking to charge your phone or laptop, for example, by plugging your charging cord without an adapter, directly into a usb-c or usb-a port, you'll be completely out of luck. When I first got this I plugged in my laptop cord directly into one the usb-c ports while using it. I eventually, fairly quickly I must say, realized that it was as though the laptop wasn't plugged in at all. It even seemed to lose power faster than if it weren't plugged in! And, it was the only thing plugged in at the time. So it might just be me expecting a charge instead of the opposite, but the issue stands. I had to go and find my A/C adapter and charge my laptop the same way I would without this unit, as if I was plugged into the wall. Now I'm sure there are people out here surprised that anyone would be confused by having to use an adapter to charge a phone or laptop while using this unit. My confusion comes from the unit having as many usb-c and usb-a ports as it does. I don't think it's a stretch to assume, as I did, that the point of having so many ports is to actually use them. One reason I haven't rated this lower is that I knew of the ports low voltage and wattage, so I wasn't completely surprised by having to use an adapter, though I WAS surprised by how completely useless the usb ports seem to be. Also, one description picture shows a phone being charged WITHOUT an adapter. And this does charge my phone but only if I'm not using it. It stays at pretty much the same battery level if I'm using it while charging it. So I don't think I'm 100% at fault for being surprised If you will be using the usb ports to charge a small appliance, a groomer, a shaver, a toothbrush? I'm sure this will do well. I don't have any of those so I guess I won't be using the usb ports at all or will use them only if I'm not in a rush to get a fast charge. Once the initial surprise subsided, I'm still glad I got this. It has ELEVEN A/C outlets, a flat plug that can fit just about anywhere and behind any piece of furniture, and I could still charge my phone (thought not my laptop) in a pinch. I think the price at the time of this review is fine for those features. 3.5 stars.

Many Outlets in One Compact Device!
Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong
The number of outlets is impressive for its size, and the USB ports are super convenient for phones, tablets, and other small devices. Everything charges steadily without overheating, and the 5 ft cord gives enough flexibility to place it where I need it. I also really appreciate the compact design. Even with so many plugs available, it doesn’t feel bulky or cluttered. It fits nicely behind furniture and keeps everything organized instead of having a mess of adapters everywhere. It’s especially perfect for older homes or apartments with only a couple of outlets per room. While it’s not a substitute for true grounded outlets for heavy appliances, it works perfectly for everyday electronics. These items are typically fine: Phone chargers Laptops LED lamps Routers / modems TVs (modern, low draw) These devices are double-insulated or low risk, so they don’t rely heavily on grounding. Avoid using this for: Space heaters Air conditioners Microwaves Refrigerators Power tools Anything metal-bodied or high-power Without a real ground, a fault could energize the casing and increase shock risk. Overall, this is a solid, reliable, and incredibly convenient power strip. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone needing more outlets and USB charging in one simple solution for appliances motioned above that are safer to use with relatively better price.

Perfect Sofa-Side Charging Hub
Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong, Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong
I picked this power strip mainly to use next to my sofa, where I usually charge my tablet, phone, and laptop while relaxing in the evening. Having 11 AC outlets and multiple USB ports in one place has made that corner much more organized, and I no longer have chargers scattered everywhere. The layout is well thought out. Larger plugs don't block neighboring outlets, and the flat angled plug fits nicely behind furniture. The 5-foot cord gives enough flexibility to position the strip where it's most convenient. I also like having both USB-A and USB-C ports available for smaller devices. For phones, tablets, earbuds, and similar electronics, the built-in USB ports have been very useful. For my everyday use, charging personal devices and powering small electronics, the unit has performed as expected. The overload protection switch and built-in safety features provide additional peace of mind. Overall, this has been a practical solution for adding more outlets to an older two-prong receptacle while keeping my charging area tidy and easy to access.

Major Safety Red Flag! 3 Prong Outlets, 2 Prong Plug, This Does Not Provide A Grounded Connection!
Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong, Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong
This power strip has a compact design, a convenient outlet layout, and USB ports, so on the surface it looks useful. The patented three-row layout is clever for spacing the outlets, but that only applies to how the outlets are positioned. It does not change how the strip is actually powered or protected. The problem is the safety design. It has 11 three-prong outlets, but the wall plug itself is only two-prong. Without a ground prong, it is not grounded. The two flat prongs are hot and neutral only, so this does not provide the grounded protection that the three-prong outlets appear to suggest. That also makes the surge protection claims highly questionable to me. A real grounded surge protector should have a grounding path for excess surge energy. With only a two-prong plug, I would not trust this to provide the kind of surge protection people generally expect when plugging in electronics or grounded devices. The manual mentions surge protection, ground protection, short-circuit protection, over-current protection, over-voltage protection, over-heat protection, and UL 1363 safety standards, but I could not find any visible UL, ETL, or similar safety certification mark on the unit or paperwork. The only marking I saw was FCC, which is not the same thing as electrical safety certification. Given the two-prong plug and three-prong outlets, those protection claims feel dubious at best and misleading at worst. The USB charging is also underwhelming. The total USB output is listed as 24W, which is not much for today’s devices, especially when that power is shared across multiple ports. We frequently use 35W or higher from a single USB charger, so I would not buy this for fast or modern device charging either. Because of the two-prong plug paired with three-prong outlets, I will absolutely not use this. I do not want a power strip that makes devices appear protected or grounded when they are not. For me, this is not a small design issue. It is a serious safety concern.

Convenient Design but Raises Some Safety Concerns
Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong, Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong
As other reviews have mentioned, this power strip does not provide true grounding protection. It allows devices with three-prong plugs to connect through a two-prong wall outlet, but the strip itself still relies on a two-prong connection. Because of that, I think it’s important to understand the potential safety limitations before using it, especially with higher-powered electronics. It does offer a large number of outlets and USB ports, which is convenient for older homes with limited access to modern plugs. However, considering the price, there are safer and more reliable alternatives available that may be a better long-term choice.
