Any trademark, any defining trait is a double-edged sword: it is, of course, the catchy part, the kind of stuff people will remember, but in turn they tend to miss some of the other feats, some of the actual details and intricacies. Look at Schnitt, a truly unique duo hailing from Augsburg in Southern Germany. Comprising Moritz Illner and Markus Christ (formerly Kitty Empire), who've been adding to their sizable arsenal of sonic tools (e.g. trumpet, bass clarinet, prepared flugelhorn, Rhodes, pedals, turntables, drums) since 2012, the former is responsible for the band's signature "shtick": His sole instrument is actually a vinyl-cutting machine. A contraption that allows them to go massive, to go meta: live-cutting his multi-instrumentalist partner's live parts to then add them as samples, in order to create even richer, thicker walls of sound, wilder improvisations. It's a spectacular approach - because it's probably the most haptic and Rube Goldbergian way to manually pull off what a sampling device normally does. No wonder they picked it as their name: "cut" translates to "schnitt" in German. And yet, apart from how they do it, there's a lot more to discover on Wand, the group's sophomore offering (it's first for Alien Transistor) - because after all it's about how they sound, part sonic installation, part beat-based exploration at the intersection of postrock, jazz, minimal music and noise. Starting off as an incremental brass collage, opening/title track "Wand" sees Schnitt create crisp and scratchy units of sound, which are then aligned and rearranged along the track's steady groove. With "Unwucht" - meaning dynamic unbalance - things indeed go off-kilter for a static-filled moment, yet there's always a way out: There's the laid-back minimalism of "Raus", some improvised contortions ("Torso"), wonderfully catchy lacunas between interlocked brass melodies ("Konstrukt"), and wild excursions even amateur bass-clarinetist André 3000 would endorse ("Tumult"). Almost radio-friendly and cinematic: The duo's delicately moving "Saum", the perfect cut for nighttime cruising. Elsewhere, there's more steady beats that almost feel like a reprise to the hey-days of Mo'Wax and the '90s: the thumping bass drum of "Splitter" is complete with a shimmering, slow-moving hint of a tune on top, or the jazzed-out, head-nodding crackle of "Fragment". So naked, so banging. Schnitt have created an album that's 100% deep cuts. Includes download code; edition of 300.

8/10 Front Pocket Wallet
Color: Black (Front Pocket)
It's a pleasing solution for me. The slim, pocketed design fits well in my front pocket. It probably fits other pockets well too.
It's not perfect. But, it's solving for an imperfect solution that Apple is takling with their phones. Tap to pay with phones and digital ID will change the market for wallets.
The physical size of cards limits how readily you can access any one card. It takes a bit of extra dexterity to pinch or slide some of the cards out. Ideally you'd have 4 on the outside, with remaining cards tucked in the center pocket. I just need more than 1/4 inch of card face to slide one out readily.

Size
Color: Black (Bifold)
It’s not a thick wallet, which is what my husband likes. Makes sitting or driving for long periods with it in his back pocket better. Has everything larger wallets have. Will purchase it again.

Rugged wallet built to last (even if wallets themselves are becoming obsolete)
Color: Black (Trifold), Color: Black (Trifold)
This is a really well-made wallet. If you’re familiar with Carhartt products, the construction here is exactly what you’d expect: tough, practical, and clearly designed to take some abuse.
The material is "700D nylon duck fabric", which feels thick and durable—more like a piece of work gear than a fashion accessory. In the photos you can see the tight stitching, heavy canvas-like texture, and reinforced seams, all of which suggest it should last for years. It feels like the kind of wallet that could live in a back pocket, get sat on, tossed around, and still keep going.
Inside, the layout is simple and functional. The see-through mesh ID window is one of my favorite touches—it makes it easy to show an ID without removing it. The card slots are snug and the trifold layout keeps everything organized. There’s also a small zippered pocket, which you can see in the photos along the side. It’s not huge, but it can hold a few coins or maybe a couple of small keys.
The wallet also includes RFID blocking, which is nice if you’re concerned about wireless card scanning. On the flip side, that also means you can’t just tap the wallet against a reader for contactless payments. You’ll need to take the card out first.
Carhartt also advertises water resistance, which makes sense given the nylon construction. Realistically, most of us aren’t dunking our wallets in water, but it’s nice to know it could handle rain or the random spill (though come-on! How often does that happen with a wallet??)
One interesting thing: wallets themselves are starting to feel a little outdated. I rarely carry one anymore, and most of my family uses phone wallets or digital payments. But if you’re someone who still likes having a physical wallet for cards, ID, and some cash, this is a solid one.
It’s a simple, rugged, no-nonsense wallet that should last a long time - very much in line with the Carhartt reputation. If you’re still in the wallet camp, this is a dependable choice. Plus it makes a nice gift.
