Enstilar Description
Enstilar is a foam used to treat psoriasis and contains betamethasone and calcipotriol.
Both ingredients help to lessen inflammation, redness, and itching.
It's available in a can, and you spray the foam onto the areas of skin that are affected.

What is Enstilar?

Enstilar is a foam used to treat psoriasis, containing two active ingredients: betamethasone, a corticosteroid, and calcipotriol, a type of vitamin D. These ingredients are believed to help improve psoriasis symptoms.

Vitamin D helps reduce inflammation in the skin. Research has shown that low levels of vitamin D are linked to psoriasis, and treatments with vitamin D are often recommended, either alone or alongside a corticosteroid, to help manage the condition. Betamethasone is commonly used to treat skin that is itchy and swollen. In addition to psoriasis, it is frequently prescribed for eczema and contact dermatitis.

How does Enstilar work?

Topical treatments are the primary method for managing psoriasis. A common initial treatment involves using corticosteroids alongside vitamin D. These may be prescribed individually at times. Enstilar is a foam that combines both ingredients, which can be applied directly to dry, red, and inflamed skin.

What doses of Enstilar are there?

Enstilar is available in 60g or 120g cans.

Apply the foam just once a day. You can choose any time that suits you, but it might be more effective in the evening if your psoriasis tends to worsen at night or disrupts your sleep.

Typically, you'll apply Enstilar daily for up to four weeks. However, your doctor might suggest a different schedule or a longer duration. If your psoriasis has nearly cleared after four weeks, Enstilar may be prescribed to be used twice a week on non-consecutive days.

Our medical team will assist you in determining the best way to use the foam to manage your psoriasis.

How long does Enstilar take to work?

We can't guarantee how quickly your psoriasis will improve with Enstilar, as everyone reacts differently to treatments. You might notice the effects of the foam straight away, or it might take a bit more time.

If you've been using the foam for a few weeks and feel it's not working, you can get in touch with us.

There are many treatments for psoriasis, and they're often used together to be most effective. The three main types are topical treatments, phototherapy, and systemic treatments. Phototherapy uses ultraviolet (UV) light on your skin, while systemic medications are taken by mouth or injected. These work throughout your whole body, not just on the inflamed skin areas.

If Enstilar isn't doing enough to help your psoriasis, feel free to chat with us about other ways to manage your condition.

What should I do if I make a mistake while using Enstilar?

Use Enstilar just as your clinician has instructed. Typically, you apply the foam once a day. A 60g can should last at least 4 days. If it seems like it won't, you might be using too much foam or applying it more frequently than necessary.

If you forget to apply your Enstilar at the usual time, there's no need to use extra to make up for it. If you're considering stopping the treatment, it's advisable to do so gradually, particularly if you've been using it for some time.

Using too much Enstilar can increase calcium levels in your blood. If you're taking any other medicines with calcipotriol, please let us know before you begin using Enstilar. This helps ensure you don't exceed the daily recommended amount of calcipotriol, which is 15 grams.

Do I need a prescription for Enstilar?

Enstilar is a medication that you can only get with a prescription. Corticosteroid formulas typically need a prescription because they are usually stronger than what you can buy over the counter. In the UK, any treatment containing betamethasone must be prescribed by a doctor.

If you're frequently using creams, moisturisers, and ointments to manage your psoriasis symptoms, it's important to carefully review the list of ingredients to ensure they don't include anything that could irritate your skin further. If you're uncertain, feel free to ask a clinician for more guidance.

How is Enstilar different from other psoriasis treatments?

For psoriasis, you can choose from a variety of topical treatments like creams, ointments, and mousses, giving you several options to meet your needs.

Enstilar stands out as it's the only prescription-strength foam that blends a corticosteroid with vitamin D. You may find that spraying the foam onto your skin makes it simpler to use and more convenient than other psoriasis treatments.

Bettamousse is similar to Enstilar but is specifically for treating scalp psoriasis. It contains betamethasone as its active ingredient and should be applied twice daily. Fucidin H is a cream that not only treats psoriasis but can also be used for other conditions like eczema. It might be a suitable choice if your symptoms are due to various conditions. The active ingredient in Fucidin H is fusidic acid, an antibiotic that can treat bacterial skin infections.

Will Enstilar cause side effects?

Not everyone will experience side effects from using Enstilar, but like all medicines, there's a chance it might cause some.

Some of the side effects mentioned in the patient information leaflet that comes with your medication include allergic reactions, an increase in calcium levels in your blood, skin irritation like burning and stinging, and depigmentation (where your skin loses its colour). These side effects are considered uncommon, affecting only 1 in 100 people.

If you think the foam is causing any issues that make you hesitant to use it, please inform a clinician straight away.

Will Enstilar clear my psoriasis?

We can't promise that Enstilar foam will completely clear your psoriasis, but there's evidence showing it's effective. Betamethasone is commonly used alongside calcipotriol to help manage psoriasis.

Research conducted by the Department of Internal Medicine, Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Bari in Italy examined how effective this combined treatment is for scalp psoriasis. More than 75% of the participants reported that it was either excellent or good at controlling their symptoms.

If you've been using the foam for four weeks and it doesn't seem to be improving your psoriasis or easing your symptoms, you might need to try a different treatment. Everyone reacts differently to medications, so it might take a bit of trial and error to find the best one for managing your psoriasis.

Our dogs hurt their mouths chewing these bones
Color: Purple & Blue
I don't do a lot of reviews because I realize many are objective opinions. However, in this case I felt it was necessary to warn others. Our dogs are aggressive chewers. Their last rubber bones (not these) which we've purchased before, and recently purchased again, were destroyed quickly. Chunks of rubber came off the ends. Since those didn't hold up like they used to, I found these harder bones hoping they would last longer. They were able to gnaw into the hard plastic within a few minutes. This created sharp edges that cut their mouths. When I saw a bit of blood on the bones, I took them away from the dogs and threw them away. I wondered why they quit chewing on them after being so excited at first. Also, these are hard enough to damage a tooth.

Pups have shown zero interest in these toys….
Color: Purple & Blue
I would agree that these are indestructible being neither of my dogs have shown any interest in these at all. At this rate they should last forever…

Durable but losses interest
Color: Purple & Blue
My dog is an aggressive chewer. She was interested in this toy while it was new, but soon after lost interest. Good news is although it took a beating it did not break or splinter. If soppy toys are disposable in your house, give it a try.

Great for Excessive Chewers and Eaters
Size: Large (Pack of 1), Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
I decided to get the Kong Extreme toy for my then 9-year-old dog in Sept. 2010, after her older sister passed away a few days before. I figured we both could have used the distraction. I learned ages ago that most toys couldn't hold up against my two Australian Cattle Dogs, since they didn't just happily gnaw on things, they'd try to eat it. In fact, they tried to eat a number of things, from fabrics to meticulously eating the lining off tennis balls and soft balls. Nothing was safe, especially against the youngest, who has some OCD issues. I'd be lucky to see a tough toy last a day, much less a month. Like the rest, I didn't think this toy would stand a chance, but it's still holding up well almost a year later. My dog isn't a strong chewer, like a doberman or pit, but very meticulous. She and her sister would go at something for hours if you let them, until nothing was left. Because of this, I also need to choose soft toys, rather than something hard, because she'll wear her teeth down if you let her. Fortunately, this manages to stand up to her obsessive chewing, but it also doesn't wear the teeth down, which I love. I'm thinking of getting a new one, even though the current could probably last another few months. I'm just now seeing some wear along the seams, despite her every effort to conquer and destroy it. I'm mainly getting it just to be on the safe side, so that I don't risk it falling apart while I'm not watching her, and just for the sake of cleanliness. These are extremely durable and easy to clean. They do have a strong odor when you first open them up, but it fades relatively quickly. I let ours soak it in hot/vinegar water for a while, then rinsed it well and left it out in the sun for a few hours. Seemed to help a little. They can also be loud when dogs chew on them, which can be annoying if you're trying to watch TV, but I find it well worth it, even if my partner doesn't agree during football time. I love the fact that these toys bounce unpredictably, although I would be careful around furniture if you plan to bounce it off the floor or toss it. I got into the habit of using it down our long hallway, referring to it as Dog Bowling, which she loves. She also didn't need food as incentive to get into it (just me playing with it and making it out to be a big deal), which is great, since that just means less cleaning and less weight gain in my book, although I do put treats in it now and then, if my partner and I are leaving the house and plan to be gone awhile. My dog's around around 30 lbs. and is medium sized, but has had no trouble tackling the larger-sized version, which was the only size available through Amazon at the time. I may get the medium-sized toy soon, just because she's reaching 10 and she'll go at it for ages. This is a great toy for obsessive chewers in particular, and I highly recommend it to dog lovers. I just wish we'd found out about them sooner! I'm also happy to report that she has stopped chewing on random things), like blankets and clothing, as much as she used to. If she does start up, it's because she can't find her Kong. I may also get the bone version and will review on that if I do.
