Klipsch R-50M Reference Bookshelf Speakers at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The R-50M is a two-way bookshelf speaker from Klipsch (Indianapolis, Indiana, USA), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Part of the 2022 Reference Series, the R-50M replaces the R-51M and steps up from the R-40M with a larger 5.25" Spun-Copper Thermoformed Crystalline Polymer (TCP) woofer for deeper bass extension and higher output capability in medium-sized rooms. It features a single 5.25" Spun-Copper TCP woofer, a 1" aluminum LTS tweeter with Kapton suspension mated to the updated 90° x 90° Tractrix® Horn, and a 92 dB in-room sensitivity rating with a frequency response of 58 Hz to 21 kHz. Sold as a pair, the R-50M is a versatile and highly efficient speaker suited to compact stereo systems, home theater front channels, and surround channel use across a wide range of room sizes.

Updated 90° x 90° Tractrix® Horn and LTS Aluminum Tweeter

The acoustic signature of the R-50M is defined by Klipsch's updated 90° x 90° Tractrix® Horn, which features increased outer dimensions compared to the previous Reference Series generation and allows directivity control over a wider bandwidth of frequencies. By projecting high-frequency energy directly at the listening position, the Tractrix® Horn reduces the artificial reverb and spectral coloration that result from sound bouncing off room boundaries before reaching the listener, producing a cleaner, more natural presentation of detail and dynamics. The 1" aluminum Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) tweeter rides on a Kapton suspension, a material that is simultaneously light and rigid, minimizing moving mass and distortion across the upper frequency range and delivering improved resolution and detail compared to conventional dome tweeter designs.

5.25" TCP Woofer and Reinforced MDF Cabinet

The R-50M's single 5.25" Spun-Copper TCP woofer draws from trickle-down cone technology developed for the Reference Premiere Series. The steeper cone angle of the Thermoformed Crystalline Polymer design improves the linearity of pistonic motion throughout the woofer's excursion range, resulting in smoother frequency response and improved accuracy in the bass and lower midrange. Additional ribbing in the TCP cone increases structural rigidity without adding significant mass, reducing cone breakup at higher frequencies and improving transient accuracy at elevated output levels. The rear-firing bass-reflex port extends bass output to 58 Hz, and the reinforced 3/4" MDF cabinet with an updated internal bracing design suppresses cabinet resonance and vibration-induced coloration for improved overall sonic accuracy. The edge-to-edge horn and hidden fastener design give the R-50M a clean, modern appearance on any shelf or stand.

Key Features

  • Updated 90° x 90° Tractrix® Horn: Increased outer dimensions allow directivity control over a wider bandwidth of frequencies, delivering improved high-frequency accuracy and a more precise soundstage compared to the previous Reference Series generation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Klipsch R-50M?

The Klipsch R-50M is a two-way bookshelf speaker from the 2022 Reference Series, sold as a pair, featuring a single 5.25" Spun-Copper TCP woofer, a 1" aluminum LTS tweeter with Kapton suspension, and the updated 90° x 90° Tractrix® Horn. It delivers 92 dB in-room sensitivity across a frequency range of 58 Hz to 21 kHz, handles 75W continuous and 300W peak at 8 ohms, and measures 13.9" tall. It is designed for stereo music listening, home theater front channels, and multi-channel surround use.

How does the Klipsch R-50M compare to the R-40M or the Reference Premiere RP-500M II?

The Klipsch R-50M steps up from the R-40M with a larger 5.25" TCP woofer versus the R-40M's 4" woofer, extending bass from 71 Hz down to 58 Hz for improved low-frequency presence in medium-sized rooms. Both share the same Tractrix® Horn and aluminum LTS tweeter architecture from the 2022 Reference Series. The Reference Premiere RP-500M II uses a more refined Cerametallic™ woofer with Faraday rings, a Silicon Composite Hybrid Tractrix® Horn with a compression-molded silicone face, and a vented tweeter housing, targeting listeners who want the next level of resolution and low-distortion performance.

Does the Klipsch R-50M need a subwoofer?

The Klipsch R-50M's rear-firing port extends bass to 58 Hz, covering most instrument fundamentals and vocal content for music listening without a subwoofer. For home theater use with cinematic soundtracks, bass-heavy music genres, or rooms above approximately 150 to 200 square feet, pairing the R-50M with a Klipsch subwoofer such as the R-101SW adds the sub-bass extension below 58 Hz and reduces driver excursion at high volume. Crossing the R-50M over at 80 Hz to a subwoofer is a common and effective configuration for maximizing both clarity and bass output.

What is the TCP woofer used in the Klipsch R-50M?

Thermoformed Crystalline Polymer (TCP) is a woofer cone material and manufacturing process developed by Klipsch for the Reference Premiere Series and subsequently introduced into the Reference lineup. The TCP process forms the cone at a steeper angle than conventional flat-pressed cones, improving pistonic linearity throughout the woofer's excursion range. Additional ribbing in the R-50M's TCP cone increases rigidity without adding mass, reducing cone breakup at higher frequencies and improving transient accuracy compared to standard polymer or paper cone designs. The Spun-Copper finish is a visual signature of the Klipsch Reference Series.

Can the Klipsch R-50M be used as surround speakers in a home theater?

Yes, the Klipsch R-50M works well as surround or rear channel speakers in a home theater system. Its 92 dB sensitivity ensures it matches dynamically with more powerful front channel speakers, and it is tonally matched to the full 2022 Klipsch Reference Series including the R-600F, R-800F, and R-605FA floorstanding speakers. At 13.9" tall and 11 lbs per speaker, the R-50M is practical for placement on rear wall speaker stands or mounts in a dedicated listening room.

What amplifier pairs well with the Klipsch R-50M?

The Klipsch R-50M's 92 dB in-room sensitivity and 8-ohm nominal impedance make it easy to drive with a wide range of amplifiers. Stereo receivers and integrated amplifiers producing 30 to 75 watts per channel are well matched to the R-50M's 75W continuous power handling, with common Toronto-area pairings including receivers from Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, and Cambridge Audio. For home theater use, any Dolby Atmos-capable AV receiver provides more than sufficient power for the R-50M's 300W peak capacity.

Where can I buy the Klipsch R-50M in Toronto or Canada?

Pretty Darn Good
Format: Kindle
So I’ve been on a omega kick and this definitely hit the spot. Madison was frustrating at times with how she acted towards Lucas, Gray, and Rian. It was like she said towards the end, she didn’t believe she deserved nice things. It would have been nice to hear from her best friends again. They kind of were there in the beginning and the gone except for mention of text messages received from them. I feel like her friends would have been great help in encouraging Madison to go with the pack and never give Brent another chance because he was toxic. I loved Rian. His personality was awesome. His humor. His ability to make Madison comfortable whenever she was feeling overwhelmed. And the fact he fell for her and she fell for him first. They are cute together. I do feel like Lucas was the odd man out though. Like Lucas didn’t develop as much of a relationship with Madison. I would have really liked to see more development in the relationship between them. It was also the same with him and Rian. There is really no relationship displayed. Most of the relationship being displayed is between Rian and Gray. Nevertheless, I loved reading about the dynamic that came to fruition during the entirety of this story. Madison finally got her happiness. And Brent finally got punched in the face. Everyone got exactly what they deserve.

Pack's Promise was okay but not great
Format: Kindle
Pack's Promise was okay but not great. I won't recommend it to anyone that I know. PRO: * Very likable characters * Lots of steamy scenes that are written very well * The spelling and grammar are good * The punctuation is good with the exception of using hyphens instead of commas. Lots of hyphens. Lots and lots of hyphens. CON: * Almost no interactions with any characters outside of Madison and the pack * Nearly no plot. They meet, get together for a heat, agree to make it permanent, done * Quite a few typos such as extraneous words, missing words and words out of order THINGS TO KNOW: * More steamy scenes than storytelling * A lot of MM & MMM, some MFMM during heat

Fluffy and Nice Omegaverse
Format: Kindle
… this would have made 5 stars but for 2 reasons. A.) there were quite a few typos; misspelled words, missing quotations, “the his” mistakes, and various signs that maybe a proofread would do good. B.) the writing was quite textbook. Late blooming omega is struggling with her new self, finds a absurdly wealthy pack of alphas, every thing is almost insta-love but she resists, then decides to love herself and let everyone be happy. Rian was my favourite (obviously the author’s favourite too because he got the most page time) but I wish we could see more of his CEO side? He went to work maybe ONCE the entire time. Gray was supposed to be the “growly one” but he turned out to be puppy dog. Lucas was a genius brainiac doctor - but also super alpha with an aggressive hindbrain with a breeding k*nk?? And then there was no actual “breeding”?? Spice 3/5 - normally omegaverse books are super high on messy smut but this was tamer. Romance 3/5 - insta-love that was then resisted because of personal hangup’s Plot 2/5 - weird paced head hopping, showing the same scene from different POV’s that made me feel like it was 2 steps backward, 1 step forward. Humour 4/5 - there were a dozen lines that genuinely made me chuckle out loud Would have been five stars but the lack of proofreading and the predictable plot made me unable to get up to ADORED IT level - four stars is still and official ENJOYED IT, y’all. This isn’t a bad rating. The “Club Heat” has intriguing possibilities so I’m going to give the second one a shot.
