About the work

Lubna Chowdhary’s research and practice point to an intellectual interest in objects that have been produced through the processes of mimicry and mis-translation. Revealing a particular interest in the cross-fertilisation of cultures and cultural encounters the resulting works are often metaphorical, but sometimes reference real objects

Chowdhary’s edition for the Whitechapel Gallery, Step Up. Step Down, makes reference to an electronic technology and playfully suggests the micro architectural qualities of the designed object

While her work references and makes use of industrial processes and technology, she invests carefully in manual interventions, ensuring that there is always an interplay of the hand made and the technologically produced.

About the artist

Lubna Chowdhary is a London based artist (b 1964 Tanzania). She works primarily in ceramics to create site specific architectural works, spatial installations and sculptural objects which address a longstanding preoccupation with urban and material culture.

Her work assimilates ideas and aesthetics from Eastern and Western worlds, forging conjunctions between disparate cultures, entities and visual references. She completed an MA at the Royal College of Art (1991) and was Artist-in-residence at Camden Arts Centre (1994) and at the V&A Museum (2017).

Pretty nice
Color: 1-Brown, Size: S
It’s kinda cheap but not too bad pretty nice overall and for the price. Good gift I noticed when I went to check and gift it that the interior had some wripples and seemed like seems (string hanging) but they actually refunded me for that. So that was really nice. It’s a good gift overall but you get what you pay for.

Good size. Looks nice. Keep it handy on night stand. Holds everything from my husband's pockets & doesn't oversize the table.

Honestly Perfect
Color: 1-Black, Size: S
As a student, this Valet has made my life so much easier! I wake up around 530-6, and it's really easy to feel discombobulated so early. I keep everything I need for the day in this valet before I head out: Chapstick, gum, phone, wallet, keys, watch, even change for parking. It just makes my day so much more efficient because I can grab it and head out w/o thinking. Not to mention the material it's super sleek, affordable, and it looks great on any nightstand. It prevents me from missing anything, and its honestly one of the best investments I've made in college for just getting my day started. Thanks again Baoyun! Mad love, - Anthony
